HIV Prevention Programs and Services


Testing and Counseling /Partner Counseling and Referral Services [contact the coordinator]
Nebraskans wondering if they have been exposed to HIV can rely on Nebraska AIDS Project to provide free and  anonymous HIV testing and counseling. Free HIV testing and counseling is available at NAP locations in Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk and Kearney. NAP is proud to offer both OraSure and OraQuick HIV screening. OraSure testing consists of an oral swab (no needles!) and is available at all of our testing sites. OraQuick is a rapid HIV test that involves a finger prick. El Programma del SIDA/Latino Outreach & Bilingual Testing [contact the coordinator]
In cooperation with the Chicano Awareness Center, Nebraska AIDS Project is pleased to offer culturally competent, bilingual HIV education and testing to Omaha's Latino community. The Chicano Awareness Center's long history with Omaha's Spanish speaking community creates trust and cultural competence, while Nebraska AIDS Project adds 20 years of experience in the HIV prevention field. This collaboration is made possible through the support of the Terry K. Watanabe Charitable Trust.

MPower HIV/STD Prevention for Men [contact the coordinator]
MPOWER is a comprehensive Gay and Bisexual men's health program focusing on HIV and STD prevention for men who have sex with men. MPower helps men who are HIV+ and HIV- maintain and improve their health and independence. Programming includes peer-to-peer education, discussion and a forum for creating a sense of community and responsibility.

Many Men, Many Voices (3MV) [contact the coordinator]
A health program for gay or bisexual men of color that focuses on HIV and STD prevention.  3MV helps participants identify various social and cultural influencing factors that lead to a negative self identity and risky sexual behavior.  The program includes retreats, support groups, and club outreach.

Nebraska AIDS Information & Referral Hotline [contact the coordinator]
Operating Sunday through Friday, 10am to 10pm, the Nebraska AIDS Hotline provides a resource for anyone who has questions about HIV or AIDS in the state of Nebraska. Callers reach trained volunteers and staff who can help them assess their risk, define symptoms, identify Nebraska test sites, make referrals to other community agencies such as domestic violence or substance abuse resources, and answer any other questions about HIV/AIDS. The hot line number is 1-800-782-AIDS.

Ujima [contact the coordinator]
The Ujima Project is a HIV/STD prevention program for Omaha's African American community. This program is focused on eliminating the HIV and STD disparities that the African American community currently faces. The Ujima Project consists primarily of HIV/STD workshops and presentations, targeted HIV testing and counseling, community awareness and street outreach.

Nebraska AIDS Education and Training Center [contact the coordinator]
Conducted in collaboration with  the University of Nebraska Medical Center, this program is focused on providing support, resources and training to health care and social service providers. Customized workshops and presentations are available at no charge to providers, educators, administrators, etc.

Street Outreach [contact the coordinator]
Street Outreach is a HIV and STD risk reduction program targeting at-risk individuals on the street.  The program shares knowledge about HIV and STDs and teaches skills to promote self-confidence.  It aims to work with, but is not limited to, those experiencing sex-trade, intravenous drug use, substance abuse, mental illness and poverty. 

HIV 101 Basic Training [contact the coordinator]
HIV 101 is a free training that is available to people wanting to become Nebraska AIDS Project volunteers or anyone interested in learning the facts about HIV disease. Topics covered include; the history of HIV disease in the country, current trends and statistics, STDs basic HIV and AIDS information as well as prevention and a discussion of volunteer opportunities available.
