HIV/STI Testing

Nebraska AIDS Project is carefully monitoring monkeypox in our area. Monkeypox is a rare viral illness that mostly spreads through close physical contact with someone who has monkeypox. Anyone can get and spread this virus, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Many – though not all – cases reported have been in gay or bi-sexual men.  Symptoms are typically a painful rash that can look like pimples or blisters. The rash can appear on the side of the face, inside the mouth, and on other parts of the body. Other symptoms include fever/chills, swollen lymph nodes, headache, fatigue, and body aches.  There is a vaccine; but supplies are limited.

If you feel that you have been exposed or are experiencing any symptoms, it is recommended that you speak to a health care provider for an evaluation. You can also contact your local public health department for more information on testing, vaccination, and treatment.

– Walk-in testing: As of October 2021, our Omaha office has walk-in testing Monday and Tuesday evenings 5:00-8:00 p.m.; Lincoln and Kearney locations do NOT offer walk-in testing currently

– Appointment testing: Available in Omaha, Lincoln, and Kearney, you can schedule here; conditions do apply, scheduling is limited.

-HIV Testing To-Go: Testing-to-Go is temporarily unavailable at this time. We are still offering in-person testing appointments. To book your Free, confidential HIV/STI testing appointment, please visit www.nap.org/appintments or call 402-552-9260

-Condom Distribution: The Omaha office has Condoms To-Go! Order here. Condom needs outside of the Omaha area, contact your local NAP office to discuss further.

NAP provides free, confidential or anonymous HIV testing and counseling with results available the same day.  NAP can test anyone age 13 and older. HIV testing includes a brief counseling session to discuss potentially high risk behaviors and gives you a chance to ask questions in privacy.

NAP also offers urine tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia in some locations. These are not same day results. An HIV test is always required prior to the STI test (though you can get an HIV test without an STI test). A $10 fee is requested as this covers the cost of the test and treatment if you should test positive for either STI. While HIV testing can be done anonymously, STI testing must be done confidentially, which means you will need to provide information such as your name, date of birth, and telephone number. For STI testing, please refrain from urinating two hours prior to getting tested. Please note: NAP office phones are not answered after 5pm during walk-in testing.

2022 HOLIDAY SCHEDULE:

NAP offices are closed on the following holidays each year: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, the day before Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, Juneteenth, and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday.
